The Shelby County Historical Society has operated the Ross Historical Center for twenty five years. Each operating year a property improvement project is implemented. Two years ago, we started a project that repaired the upper portion of the Ross Historical Center building. We tuck pointed and capped all of the chimneys, replaced windows on the north and east sides of the attic, and repaired the window and siding on the second story of the west side. To our surprise it took two years of Match Day money to complete the entire project. This year, the Society has decided to replace the parking area for their employees and visitors. Over the last twenty-five years the concrete has deteriorated to a less than desirable place to park. The unlevel concrete is hard on tires and became a trip hazard for elderly visitors. The Society will also be renovating the handicap accessible ramp by staining it and repairing unsecured and decaying boards. The completion of these projects will make it safer for handicapped and elderly people to visit the Ross Historical Center.
