Shelby County Arc has exciting plans for funds raised through Match Day 2026: Gifts will be used to expand eligibility for Camp Dalanda! Since 2013, Camp Dalanda has given teenagers with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in a traditional overnight camping experience right here in Shelby County. Beginning this summer, adults will get that same opportunity!
For three days and three nights, campers swim, fish, ride horses and enjoy s’mores around the campfire. They make crafts, play games, watch a movie and finish the week with a dance hosted by a live DJ. It’s a whole lot of fun – with a little quiet time thrown in, too! It gives campers a chance to try new things, boost their confidence and increase their independence. And, because campers come from all over Shelby County, everyone makes new friends!
The only downside to Camp Dalanda is that campers eventually age out of the program. It’s disappointing for everyone and we often get asked if we offer a similar camping experience for adults. That’s why right now we’re working on modifications to our original camp format that will allow us to offer a separate camp for adults beginning this summer! We assure you this will be welcome news to our “alumni” campers and new campers alike!
You can join us in our efforts to make these big plans happen by supporting our Match Day campaign. Funds raised will be used to cover additional room and board costs so that registration fees remain minimal for participants.
