When a medical emergency happens, every second matters. CareFlight, operated by Premier Health, provides critical care transport to patients throughout southwest Ohio and surrounding communities, helping ensure they receive lifesaving medical attention when they need it most.
Through grant support provided to Good Samaritan Foundation-Dayton, funding helped support CareFlight’s new helicopter, an essential resource that strengthens emergency medical services throughout the region.
Serving as a flying intensive care unit, the helicopter allows highly trained flight nurses, paramedics, and pilots to bring advanced medical care directly to patients and transport them quickly to the most appropriate hospital. Whether responding to a serious accident, stroke, heart attack, or another life-threatening emergency, CareFlight helps connect patients to specialized treatment when time is critical.
Bringing Critical Care to Our Communities
CareFlight plays a particularly important role in rural and underserved communities, where distance can make accessing trauma centers and specialized medical services more challenging. By bringing advanced care directly to patients and providing rapid transportation to hospitals, CareFlight helps bridge these gaps and strengthens access to emergency healthcare.
Beyond transportation, CareFlight provides a lifeline for patients and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Its highly trained crews begin providing critical care before patients even arrive at the hospital, helping ensure they receive timely medical attention.
A Team Effort That Saves Lives
CareFlight’s work would not be possible without the dedication of its pilots, flight nurses, paramedics, communication specialists, mechanics, and support staff. These professionals work together around the clock to ensure CareFlight is ready to respond when emergencies arise. Partnerships with first responders, hospitals, emergency medical services, and healthcare providers also help make this lifesaving service possible.
Generous donors, grantmakers, and community supporters play an important role in maintaining the equipment and resources needed to provide this essential service. Their investments help CareFlight remain available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Community Foundation of Shelby County is proud to support organizations working to meet important community needs. Supporting resources like CareFlight’s new helicopter helps strengthen emergency healthcare access and ensures that patients throughout our region have a better opportunity to receive lifesaving care when every second counts.
