A New Landmark of Patriotism and Pride at Cole Field
In the heart of Botkins, Ohio, a new symbol of pride now rises above Cole Field — a freshly installed American flagpole, beautifully framed by thoughtfully designed landscaping. Thanks to a $9,800 grant from The Louise Sheets Fund through The Community Foundation of Shelby County, this project was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Botkins Beautification Club.
Cole Field, a site rich with local history and located in the center of the village, has long been a gathering place for the Botkins community. Recognizing its significance, the Beautification Club saw it as the perfect place to honor both the nation and the village with the timeless symbol of the American flag.
“Patriotism and a sense of loyalty are at the core of many small towns, and Botkins is no exception,” said a representative from the club. “This project is a tribute to honor, duty, and community spirit.”
But the Botkins Beautification Club is about much more than flowers and flagpoles. Their mission is twofold: beautify and unify. The group is behind several beloved community events, including the Christmas Tour of Homes and the Christmas in Botkins Kickoff — celebrations that bring neighbors together and create that hallmark small-town charm reminiscent of a holiday movie.
This latest project exemplifies the Club’s broader mission. By combining a patriotic tribute with aesthetic improvements to a central community space, they’re reinforcing the values that bind Botkins together.
The success of projects like this one depends on a wide network of support — from fundraising efforts and private donations to the time and energy of volunteers. Most notably, the Club recognized the repeated generosity of The Louise Sheets Fund as instrumental in bringing their vision to life.
It’s also worth noting the vital role played by the Village Council, which continues to back initiatives that strengthen the community’s sense of pride and place.
As the flag waves proudly over Cole Field, it stands as a testament not only to American values but also to the heart of Botkins itself — a small town with big pride and a deeply rooted sense of togetherness.
