At Samaritan Works, Inc., recovery is about more than sobriety—it’s about rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and creating lasting support systems. Thanks to a $20,000 award from our generous community, they are now able to expand their transportation fleet with an additional vehicle that is already making a powerful difference in the lives of those they serve.

Supporting Recovery Through Faith and Family

Samaritan Works provides faith-based sober living through Certified Recovery Homes, offering a safe, family-style environment for individuals on their recovery journey. The residents receive comprehensive support, including transportation, help navigating treatment, employment assistance, peer support, educational classes, and ongoing accountability. With weekly check-ins and clear program expectations—such as working, attending counseling, and participating in NA/AA meetings— residents are empowered to build stability and independence.

Why Transportation Matters

For many individuals in recovery, transportation is one of the biggest barriers to success. Most of the participants do not own a vehicle, and many do not have a driver’s license. Without reliable transportation, everyday necessities—such as getting to work, attending counseling appointments, buying groceries, or moving into safe housing—become major obstacles.

Before receiving this funding, individuals often had to rely on outside help to move in or out of housing, sometimes turning to people from their past who were not supportive of their recovery. This created unnecessary risk during a critical stage of healing.

A Vehicle That Delivers More Than Transportation

With this new vehicle, Samaritan Works can safely move individuals into and out of Samaritan Works homes, ensuring continuity of care and stability. They are also now able to help program graduates transport essential furniture and household items as they transition into independent living. This continued support allows them to maintain meaningful, family-like connections with graduates even after they leave our program.

This single addition has addressed multiple challenges at once and has become an essential tool in their mission.

Gratitude to Our Community

Their work is only possible because of the generosity of our community. Shelby County is blessed with individuals and organizations who believe in helping neighbors, families, and futures. Every donation, every show of support, helps someone’s child, sibling, or loved one find hope and healing.

This new vehicle is more than transportation—it’s a pathway to independence, safety, and sustained recovery.
