Sometimes the greatest impact of a grant isn’t measured by bricks, concrete, or construction—it’s measured by the friendships formed, the healthier lifestyles encouraged, and the stronger communities that result.
Thanks to the generosity of Community Foundation of Shelby County Donors, the Shelby County Pickleball Association has expanded opportunities for recreation by adding two new pickleball courts to serve the growing number of players in our community.
Community Grants of $26,500 helped make the project possible, providing critical support that also enabled the association to secure matching funds through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Grant Program. Without this investment, the expansion simply would not have happened.
Over the past three years, the Shelby County Pickleball Association has grown to more than 120 members who share a passion for staying active while building meaningful connections. The organization welcomes players of all skill levels by offering free clinics for beginners, intermediate, and advanced participants. They have also introduced the sport to new audiences through clinics for the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities and the City of Sidney’s summer youth camps.
The impact of the new courts extends well beyond the association’s membership. Open to the public, the courts provide a place where families, friends, neighbors, and visitors can enjoy healthy outdoor recreation together. They also allow the association to host tournaments and expand programming that benefits the entire community.
This project demonstrates how philanthropy creates opportunities that might not otherwise exist. By investing in community spaces that promote wellness, inclusion, and social connection, donors are helping make Shelby County an even better place to live, work, and play.
Every Community Grant tells a story of partnership. In this case, generous donors, dedicated volunteers, and community organizations came together to create a lasting resource that will serve residents for years to come.
Because of your generosity, more people have a place to play, learn, connect, and belong. Thank you for helping strengthen our community—one court at a time.
