Since 1934, Charity League has been a group of dedicated women who volunteer their time, talents, and resources to serve children throughout Shelby County. We have made it our mission to buy clothing for children in need.

The Children We Shop For: Once per calendar year, any child living in Shelby County is eligible to receive clothing from Charity League. Each child we shop for is referred to us by schools, daycares, county agencies, and local organizations who have identified a need for clothing. Charity League has also assisted in crisis situations when families have faced a life changing situation such as homelessness or fire. The referring agencies complete referral forms to ensure we are buy styles and sizes to meet everyone’s unique needs and preferences. Our members personally shop for each child to provide them with three new outfits, undergarments, shoes/boots, and a coat. On average we spend $125.00 per referral. In 2025 alone, we shopped for 377 kids. This means over $47,000 went directly back to kids living in our neighborhoods.

Why Match Day Matters:
Every $125 donation Charity League receives will be enough to clothe one child. On the Community Foundation of Shelby County’s Match Day, your generosity goes even further. Every dollar you donate is matched (up to the first $5,000 total), helping your gift make twice the impact for children in our community. It has been eye opening for our members to watch the amount of need in our community continue to grow year after year, but it is also rewarding to get to see firsthand how something as simple as a new pair of shoes or outfit can boost a child’s spirit and confidence. Without our donors’ support we would not be able to fulfill everyone’s need.
