Our Role in Philanthropy
At the Community Foundation of Shelby County, we help people who want to provide a lasting gift to help the community. We assist donors in creating charitable funds to benefit the regions, causes, or organizations of their choosing. Some charitable funds have one donor while others are established by the gifts of many. Each fund is distinctively created and has a story to tell.
The Community Foundation connects generosity with need. We provide customized philanthropic solutions and services to donors, which enhances the quality of life in Shelby County and beyond. Our donors are individuals, families, companies, organizations, and foundations, and come from diverse backgrounds and communities throughout Shelby County.
We make it comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective to give by harnessing our extraordinary flexibility to create a giving vehicle best suited to a donor’s goals. The Community Foundation provides solutions to help donors make a difference in ways that matter to them.
Donors from throughout the area and outside the area have established more than 190 charitable funds. We handle Scholarships Funds, Organization Funds, Donor Advised Funds, Community Granting Funds, and funds that target a specific cause, charity, or project. Most of our charitable funds are intended to be long term or support the community forever.
