Distributes $1.1 Million in Match Day Gifts
The Community Foundation of Shelby County distributed $1,165,914 in Match Day gifts to 30 participating charities Thursday at the Historic Sidney Theatre. This year’s total exceeded the 2023 amount by more than $336,000.
For the eighth consecutive year, the local foundation offered matching money of up to $5,000 to 501(c)(3) charities that had an organization fund within the Community Foundation. Donations for the 2024 Match Day were given by Dec. 3rd, known as Giving Tuesday.
“We want to express our gratitude to every person, civic group and business who gave during Match Day. Participating charities motivated their donors to raise the full matching amount and we are thrilled that each received the full match,” said Jordan Knepper, Community Foundation donor relations director. “Gifts came from every Shelby County community and several surrounding counties. “I sincerely thank Dave Ross for providing the matching dollars that inspired each charity to raise at least $5,000. His tremendous generosity is the reason we can hold Match Day and his enthusiasm for its future is terrific,” said Marian Spicer, executive director of the Community Foundation. “A group of donors have committed to supporting the Match Day pool for the next few years, along with Dave. I am overwhelmed and grateful for their support as Match Day looks to its ninth event on Dec. 2.
“Thank you to everyone who gave to support Match Day organizations. I ask donors to keep these organizations and their funds at the Community Foundation in mind for future giving. The organization funds are reserves for tomorrow’s needs or growing programs.”
Plans have begun for the next Match Day to be held on Dec. 2, 2025. The Community Foundation of Shelby County administers $65 million in 260 charitable funds including scholarship, donor advised, designated, project, community granting and organization funds.
